With Laura Ashley's husband, Bernard Ashley,
Laura Ashley Bedding manufactured home decorating materials and wallpaper based on
19th century designs. When Laura Ashley had children, she augmented the Laura Ashley Bedding line with clothing and opened an international chain of boutique stores specializing in bedding, wallpapers, furnishing fabrics, and
romantic clothing made from natural fabrics. Laura Ashley had in her lifetime become synonymous with
small, repetitive overall patterns; the use of
natural fabrics; and a
graceful simplicity in women's styles. Laura Ashley dresses and blouses were noted for their Victorian-like high necks and full sleeves, the severity relieved by lace and ruffles. Today, Laura Ashley bedding and bath carries her trademark style.
